Youghal Bay Boat Club Open Day
Written by Administrator    PDF Print E-mail

Tony Wright (ISA) gives a speech at the Open DayA very chuffed Youghal Bay Boat Club would sincerely like to thank all those who contributed to the success of our inaugural Open Day last Monday, specifically: Community Radio Youghal; All the covering journalists and photographers; Youghal Online; Aquatrek and Ardmore Adventures; All the media who assisted in promoting the event, resulting in an attendance of several thousand; All those who took to the water, including the visiting boats from Cork and Kinsale; All those who provided stalls on the day; All that came along and enjoyed a fun day in Youghal

As with all these events, the weather is a critical factor, and the one thing an organising committee has zero control over. Fortunately we were blessed on the day and as a result the quayside in Youghal was thronged with members of the public. For ourselves we had a challenge in terms of managing expectations - this was only an Open Day after all, not a big festival (that comes later in the Summer!), but a combination of strong on-water activity, a fantastic outside broadcast from Community Radio Youghal, and some good food and boating stalls, ensured that there was a little bit of something for everyone on the day. We've managed to pull together some of the best pictures from the day and they're now up at the following link (click on any image to see it fully). If anyone would like any of the images shown, please get in touch and we'll contact the relevant photographer. Thanks again to everyone who helped and we look forward to a great season on the water.

Surf Training Weekend
Written by Administrator    PDF Print E-mail
A bloody big waveJust a very early-stage heads-up on this Winter Surf Training weekend we're planning in Dingle. Loads more details to come in .... the following is just to whet your appetite
Dates:
Friday 26th - Sun 28th Feb
Base:
Have a look through the property details - we'll be taking as many of the 5-beds (sleep 10) as we can fill .....and yes, that is a hot-tub you see!! Really modern and clean development (stayed there earlier this year) and within easy staggering distance of town.
Local Partner
We're partnering up with Jamie Knox - http://www.jamieknox.com/ - ...he's worked this coastline for years and is a legend down there. He'll be our 'oracle' each morning when determining where the best surf is going to be. He's also going to fall in with us fully for the weekend.
Surf Training
Details are to be confirmed but we hope to have some of the best guys in the world over to train us. It's going to be an amazing learning experience, but the emphasis will be on fun.
Daily Plans
There aren't any ....this is just a bunch of us doing what we love ...we'll plan this baby on the hoof and by consensus
Boat - No Boat
Got a Thundercat ....bring it along. Don't got one ....use one of the club ones (both Casper and Garfield are total slags - they'll allow anyone ride 'em)
Other Activities
If you're thinking about bringing the family, then here's some non-brass-monkey activities that I'm currently trying to get free/reduced deals on:
Pottery Making (bring out 'yer arty side): http://www.louismulcahy.com/
Health Club, amusements, bowling: http://www.dwol.eu/
Ridin' ...horse-riding: http://www.longsriding.com/index.html
..finally..not forgetting the world famous ... http://www.murphysicecream.ie/
I'm also talking with Dingle Tourism about them maybe doing something for us one of the nights (ie - piss-up)
Now then - here's the thing .....this is about more than just the Thundercat Surf Training. If that's your thing, then this is going to be as good as it gets. However it'll be a lot more than that .... if you're on the periphery, an aul-fella, a hibernator, then you've no excuse ... come along anyway. Have some fun during the day with the activities above, or watch us make twats of ourselves on the water .... then do what every good boater does of an evening - get ratfaced.

So now you know - pricing is going to be so cheap you'll find it down back of sofa. Pencil the date in your diary. Convince the missus/mister/squeeze that this is the pressie for you, and bob's your mum's sister's son
